Good Friday morning Caps fans. I hope you all are having a good week and that you have a fun and restful weekend ahead.

The Whitecaps have proven adept at bouncing back after a disappointing performance and that was certainly the case on Wednesday night against the LA Galaxy.

While the Galaxy had some transition moments in the first half that could have been something, they just didn’t have enough juice to overpower a relentless Whitecaps side. This team just has far too much quality when they face off against the bottom half of the Western Conference.

The only critique from a Vancouver perspective is that the final score could/should have been more than 3-0. The Caps created ample chances but, once again, their quality in and around the box let them down at times. When you create the volume of chances that the Caps create that is to be expected to some extent — if everyone on this roster finished every big chance created, they would be playing in the Premier League, not in MLS. But it remains a worry for some players, particularly guys like Cheikh Sabaly, who I actually thought looked good in terms of his off ball movement and work rate but consistently let himself down with his decision making.

But when the final score is 3-0, there isn’t a need for grumbling, particularly when there was so much that was done well. Ryan Gauld continues to be fantastic and this was another good performance from Oliver Larraz, who seems to be sharpening his relationship with Andres Cubas in central midfield. Edier Ocampo returned from injury and he continues to shine, working well with whomever is on the right wing to cause problems for the opposing backline. And Tristan Blackmon and Mathias Laborda mopped up LA’s transition opportunities with aplomb. Jesper Sorensen was even able to hand two players, Yadaly Diaby and Aleksa Cvetkovic, debuts. When put that way, there actually isn’t that much to criticize, is there?

The Caps continue to take care of business against lower table sides and will get another chance to do so over the weekend against an Austin FC side that has actually been OK in league play after a disastrous start. But the Caps proved in the midweek that just OK is not good enough to beat them.
