Good Monday morning Caps fans. I hope you all are having a good start to your week and that the weekend treated you well.
It was a no good, very bad ending to what had previously been a decent road trip. The Caps got thoroughly outplayed and couldn’t have been mad when Morgan Whittaker scored in the 81st minute to give the Colorado Rapids all three points.
This joins the Chicago match a couple of weeks ago as the two worst performances in recent memory. The fact that we have competition for that title is a sign of the type of place that the Caps are in at the moment and that is not an encouraging sentiment.
The only real positives at the moment are that the backline is holding up much better now, giving the Caps a chance of grabbing draws in games like this. But it feels like other teams, even those down near the playoff line, have figured out how Vancouver wants to play and can neutralize them, as Colorado did with the press.
The next two matches, against San Diego and Seattle, who are both fighting for their playoff lives, will not be any easier. And while BC Place probably will feel like home sweet home, the Caps haven’t been great there all summer and fall. There is still time to build some momentum before the playoffs, but it feels like it is running out quickly.
