Guess the Starting XI – Match Five vs. Chicago Fire

Welcome back, everyone.

The Vancouver Whitecaps are back at home with a perfect record in league play, sitting pretty at the top of the table after four weeks of action. Can they keep in up against Gregg Berhalter’s Chicago Fire?

The Fire are 2-1-1 to start the year, and most recently, they defeated TFC at BMO Field by a score of 2-1. Chicago are led by new Belgian designated player Hugo Cuypers, who already has four goals and one assist through his four MLS matches, after many years in Belgium, France, and Greece.

Looking at Vancouver, the home side will be without a slew of international call-ups, including Ali Ahmed, Brian White, Pedro Vite and Andres Cubas. The Whitecaps are also still without Ryan Gauld and Sam Adekugbe with injury. Needless to say, Vancouver’s depth will be tested in this one.

MLS Player Status report for VWFC

Sam Adekugbe- Quad (Out)
Ali Ahmed- International Duty (Out)
Tristan Blackmon- Personal Reasons (Out)
Andrés Cubas- International Duty (Out)
Ryan Gauld- Knee (Out)
Pedro Vite- International Duty (Out)
Brian White- International Duty (Out)

Alright, on to rules and standings we go.

– Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
– You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
– You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
– All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
– At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.

2-1 Chicago – so ridiculous that they have to play this game like this. Brian White better make the pitch in that third place game.

Anyone know what’s up with Bovalina? Weird he hasn’t played yet

    1. signed until december 31, 2026- it might just turn out to be a bad signing and probably will play with whitecaps 2 or loaned out to a USL team and see if he can do a Ngando type of re-emergence- a depth of a depth player

  9. Caps win 3-1 (CDPrior)

    1. Also, I forgot to sign in for my Dallas prediction but I did leave it there (I’ll go back and comment on it). Hoping mods can be deferential and give me the points (fingers crossed). It wasn’t even a 20 point week or anything!
