Welcome back, everyone.
The Vancouver Whitecaps face the Portland Timbers in a winner-take-all matchup Wednesday night at Providence Park, all for the opportunity to play LAFC in the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs.
There have certainly been better times for the Whitecaps here in Vancouver, but a win over Portland could go a long way to restoring what was at one point a very promising season, so perhaps the Whitecaps can get back to winning ways with their backs against the wall.
Now, in terms of predictions, let me know your thoughts about the playoffs in relation to the regular season contest. I suppose it makes sense to do the playoffs separately if the Whitecaps make it to the first round, but if not, I’m less sure. With that in mind, I’ll leave the standings as is until we make a call, and I’ll have a big wrap-up whenever the Whitecaps have played their final minutes of 2024.
As a note for this one, I’m going to treat matches that go to penalties as a win or loss either way.

- Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
- You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
- You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
- All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
- At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.
