Guess the Starting XI – Match Eighteen at Portland Timbers

Welcome back, everyone.

The Vancouver Whitecaps are out on the road again this weekend, heading down the I-5 to face their Cascadian rivals, the Portland Timbers.

Last weekend was a frustrating one for the Whitecaps, as the Revolution scored a couple of lucky goals, but at the same time, Vancouver did not do enough (outside of Ryan Gauld) to the earn themselves a point.

Portland is undefeated in their last five matches, and they bested San Jose 2-1 midweek down in California.

In terms of availability, Ali Ahmed and Andres Cubas are away with their countries for Copa America. Here’s the full lowdown from training.

Ok, on to rules and standings as always.

  • Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
  • You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
  • You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
  • All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
  • At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.

    1. Wow, whitecaps fielded a very different lineup.

Maybe in 20 years, when cloning technology is more advanced, the above creative lineup might be possible. (I had meant to have fafa, Gauld and White upfront).
