Guess the Starting XI – Match Six vs. TFC

Welcome back, everyone.

After a big home win against Cascadian rivals, the Vancouver Whitecaps host another rivalry matchup, this time against Toronto FC, this weekend at BC Place.

After impressing to begin the 2024 campaign, TFC regressed to the mean last weekend at home against SKC, falling 3-1 and only scoring a goal when the result was already well out of the balance.

To be fair, Toronto has had some bad injury luck, as Lorenzo Insigne is now sidelined for at least six weeks with a hamstring issue. Equally, they are without 2023 Vancouver Whitecap Richie Laryea, who recently underwent surgery on his hamstring. Finally, keeper Sean Johnson has been out for the past couple weeks, as he too has been dealing with hamstring issues.

Overall, this is a Toronto team that will probably push for the outside reaches of the playoffs, but the consistency and squad depth just doesn’t look like it will hold up over the course of a full season.

Turning to Vancouver, Brian White is the man the to watch out for as he prepares to return from concussion protocol. Otherwise, Vanni Sartini has a full squad to choose from this weekend.

Ok, on to rules and standings we go…

  • Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
  • You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
  • You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
  • All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
  • At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.
