Good Friday morning Caps fans. I hope you all are having a good week and that your weekend is filled with rest and relaxation.

This is the first week in awhile that there hasn’t been a midweek match to digest in this column but there has been plenty of goings on.

We appear to be in much the same place that we have been on the stadium/#SavetheCaps front, with Axel Schuster saying this week that a sale is no closer to being a reality. The snap elections in BC could cut either way for the Caps, but will likely sideline any further developments for a while. Not great!

This was also the first time that I’ve seen where the media got to ask Thomas Müller publicly about his plans for the sprint season and beyond — or whether he will call it quits after 2026.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, it doesn’t seem like he’s made a decision but instead talked about weighing factors in his private life before making a call.

For the time being, however, it sounds like he is feeling good: “But I feel really comfortable here. I think you could see that I have fun with my team out there on the pitch, and the rest we will see.”

Müller does seem like he is enjoying himself in Vancouver and it is hard to see a guy who just played 90 minutes in two straight matches not wanting to keep playing. But obviously he has a life in Germany as well, many thousands of miles away. Even if he was happy in Vancouver and reluctant to give up the game, you could see the draw of returning home looming large.

Nonetheless, if I had to guess, I’d say he will be back for the sprint season as his swan song. If he did return, the Caps would be on the shortlist of favorites for an MLS Cup run in the shortened season and the allure of one last shot at silverware would presumably also be a draw for Müller as well.

Whether that return happens or not, it has been a surreal run to see a legend of the game at BC Place. And it is safe to say that he has surpassed all expectations we could have had when he signed a year ago. Not too shabby for a 37 year-old.
