Good Friday morning Caps fans. I hope you all are having a good week — if you’re anything like me, you’re ready for the weekend to be here.
Before the weekend begins in earnest, however, we get a rare Friday night game for the Whitecaps, as they play host to Sporting Kansas City at BC Place.
This is another big opportunity for the Caps to rack up some points as SKC are … not good. They are near or at the bottom of the league in goals scored and goals conceded per match. Somehow, their expected goals are even worse.
The lone bright spot has been Dejan Jovelic, whose finishing ability remains excellent, even if he isn’t getting many chances. There are some positive early signs from some of their offseason additions, but most of those guys didn’t get in the door until after the season started, putting this team behind the eight ball. After getting knocked out of the U.S. Open Cup by a USL side midweek, this is an SKC side that is in a bit of a mini tailspin.
These are the matches that I increasingly get the most nervous about, paradoxically, as anything other than a win would feel like points dropped. MLS can’t MLS and SKC certainly shouldn’t be overlooked, but the Caps will be heavily favored here.
This is a big weekend in the standings, with the two Western Conference rivals closest to the Caps in the table, LAFC and San Jose, square off. Looking ahead, the Caps will have one more home game against a plucky Colorado side that is not a guaranteed win at the moment before embarking on their summer odyssey. So sexy opponent or not, let’s get the weekend started off with three points, eh?
Shameless Self Promotion

Best of the Rest
Thomas Müller wants to see the Caps attendance continue to grow — and weighs in on the relocation rumblings.
Javier Mascherano is shockingly out as Inter Miami manager, as it sounds like things were getting a bit combustible in south Florida.
LAFC and Nashville are ensuring MLS remains well represented, as CONCACAF Champions Cup heads into the final four.
Not to jinx things, but Alphonso Davies is looking back to his old self as he returns from injury.

wouldnt it be great if Thomas Muller was one of the new investors in the Whitecaps??!!
and this is just too good a soccer market and with majority owner, Greg Kerfoot, now saying he is staying as an investor, our chances of having a long-term Team in either a new stadium or a new deal at BC Place Stadium becomes even more of a reality
the new investors might even have a bigger vision for Vancouver sports and entertainment

Also get nervous about these games. Vancouver sports fans are like the old man in the proverb “we’ll see”.
