Guess the Starting XI – Match Five vs. San Jose

Welcome back, everyone.

With the exit from the Champions Cup, Vancouver’s focus returns to their perfect start in MLS play, as they will try to defend that this Saturday night in a battle against an upstart San Jose side.

Bruce Arena and Timo Werner have provided a new spark to this team, but it’s the defensive side of the game that has really changed, as the Bay Area team looks competent in that area for the first time in as long as I can remember.

In terms of Vancouver news and notes, Jesper Sørensen was very vague about the timeline for Andres Cubas, but suggested 4 weeks when pressed. Tristan Blackmon, meanwhile, is back in the mix and available for selection.

Finally, after some trialling, I think it makes sense to go back to using the comments for predictions. First, Google Forms has some limitations that led to replacing old complications tallying the scores with new ones. Equally, a point well taken about not being able to see each other’s predictions, and Forms does not have a clear way around this. In short, I’ll continue to see if there’s something that meets our needs, but otherwise, back to the status quo.

Guess the XI – Competition Rules

• Predictions are considered valid only if posted in the correct match thread before the official lineup is announced (typically about one hour before kickoff).
• You earn 1 point for each correctly predicted player in the Starting XI.
• You earn an additional 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
• You earn 5 points for correctly predicting the match result (Win/Draw/Loss).
• This increases to 10 points if you also correctly predict the exact scoreline.
• Therefore, a perfect prediction (Starting XI + result + exact scoreline) is worth a maximum of 25 points.

Crikey, this is a tough one! Bruce Arena coaching the Earthquakes! Oh, Har — always asking the questions for the people. I think any quote from Jesper about Cubas’ timeline will be taken out of context since his first answer was “I don’t know. I’m not psychic.” And then he’s basically asking “if I say 4 weeks, will that satisfy you?” BWAHAAA

Nice attempt with the trying out Google forms, thank you 🙂

Not sure if Blackmon is back in action but I believe he is on the roster. And I guess the international call ups are still here. Go Caps!

    1. And as Whitecaps fans grasp for the fleeting hope of a saviour, one interesting name has arisen.

Joseph Tsai, the co-founder of Alibaba, recently made MLS headlines by selling his shares in LAF FRIEND / BUDDY OF NASH!
