Guess the Starting XI – Can Champ vs. Valour (Second Leg)

Welcome back, everyone.

The Vancouver Whitecaps continue their defence of the Canadian Championship title this Wednesday night in a second leg match against Valour FC at BC Place. These two sided played out an eventful 2-2 draw in Winnipeg back on May 20th, but now Vancouver will be at home looking to finish off the job and progress to the next round.

Valour remain near the bottom of the CPL table and have lost three straight, despite showing a lot of fight and putting in some good performances here and there under Phil Dos Santos. The Whitecaps, meanwhile, are suffering their roughest stretch of the season to date, as injuries and absences have really started to take a toll.

In terms of Vancouver’s lineup, a reminder that three Canadians are required for this one. I imagine Issac Boehmer will be between the sticks and both Ralph Priso and Jeevan Badwal will start in the midfield. Otherwise, it will be interesting to see what Jesper Sørensen does with rotation, and if Sebastian Berhalter and Brian White are right back in the mix.

Ok, on to rules and standings we go.

– Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
– You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
– You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
– All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
– At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.

Disappointing that I rationalized that Whitecaps should at least draw LAG. Not going to do that again and just go with the more obvious this time around.

This isn’t the match to be rotating most players but… I have no idea what the back line is going to look like. Would Jesper put in a Canadian just for the sake of putting in a Canadian?? If I don’t put Ranko in, who will wear the armband tonight??

Would love to see White start but he has played so little over the last six weeks that I don’t know that we should be risking him. What a waste to have him sitting on the bench for the US.
