Guess the Starting XI – Game Three at LAFC

Welcome back, everyone.

The Vancouver Whitecaps have extended their first round series against LAFC to a winner-take-all game three at BMO Stadium. Though the Whitecaps have had their ups and downs this season, this match is a huge opportunity to take the next step forward as a club, knocking off a top team, one that has haunted them for the past couple of seasons.

Alright, on to rules and standings we go:

  • Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
  • You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
  • You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
  • All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
  • At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.

    Would love to see Berhalter in the lineup but I can’t see Vanni sticking with the exact same guys. BUT we must get aggressive and score first!

  12. Berhalter has one of best games ever and gets replaced by Laborda??? His only upside is being better in the air. I think Berhalter can do more to contain Buoango but I could be wrong

    I think Vanni runs out the same lineup as Game 2, but with more of a focus on defending to weather the storm that LAFC is sure to put out early on at home as the clear favourites who never expected to be in a do or die game against the Caps.

    A little less aggressive on the press early on, but focus on counters since LAFC will leave gaps as they both try for an early goal AND also adjust their shape/lineup to counter how the Caps bossed them and neutralized them in midfield last game.

    2:1 Caps, with an early goal being the difference to put all the pressure on LAFC.
