Guess the Starting XI – Match Thirty vs. Portland

Welcome back, everyone.

It’s always a nice feeling after the home town team raises a trophy.

There’s no rest for the Vancouver Whitecaps though, as they are thrust straight back into the thick of the playoff race on Saturday night at BC Place against the Portland Timbers.

Vanni Sartini mentioned that a number of his star players: Ryan Gauld, Brian White, and Andres Cubas amongst them, were at less than 100% in the final, so we will have to monitor their health status for the weekend.

Alright, now on to some accounting on my end. I’ve updated the points standings and separated out the Canadian Championship from the regular season MLS Standings, the Canadian Championship has it’s own tab which can be accessed at the bottom of the table below.

The man at the top of the Can Champ competition is our own Eighty Six Forever OG AtlantisB, aka Bryce, with a total of 73 points across the 5 matches, so congrats to him!

With that, on to rules and standings we go…

  • Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
  • You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
  • You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
  • All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
  • At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.

    That’s awesome! Glad I could win something. Our own competition too! Now, if only I could translate that to MLS play.

    Was tempted to include Halbouni, and predict a Whitecaps victory, but…going with gut!
