Guess the Starting XI – Can Champ vs. Pacific

Welcome back, everyone.

After an extended hiatus, the Vancouver Whitecaps are back in action on Tuesday night, as they play the second leg of their Canadian Championship semifinal against CPL side Pacific FC.

In the first leg back on July 10th at Starlight Stadium, the match was tightly contested throughout, with a 58th minute goal from Ryan Gauld proving to be the difference. Having secured an all-important away goal, the Whitecaps can simply look to hold serve at BC Place in order to advance, though they would certainly make things a bit more straightforward if they could find a couple of early goals against the Tridents.

In terms of Vancouver’s squad, Ryan Gauld has been back at training with the first team following his knee injury, as has loan-returnee Déiber Caicedo. I would imagine Vanni Sartini will try to get away without playing Gauld unless he has to in this match, meanwhile, I would imagine Caicedo is not quite ready to feature just yet. Elsewhere, both Sam Adekugbe and Damir Kreilach made appearances against Pumas, while Tristan Blackmon was an option on the bench, so I would think all three of those guys could be in the mix this Tuesday.

Alright, on to rules we go. I saw someone suggest recently that we also separate out Can Champ from the MLS Regular Season in terms of predictions, let me know if you would like me to do that!

  • Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
  • You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
  • You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
  • All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
  • At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.

    I think categorising the matches as MLS vs non-MLS would be the easiest if we were to separate them. Otherwise, there’s just been too many competitions!
