Welcome back, everyone.
The Vancouver Whitecaps begin their quest for a third consecutive Canadian Championship on the road at Cavalry FC Tuesday night.
After struggling to get over the hump against Canadian Premier League opposition for two straight years leading into 2022, the Whitecaps seem to have figured something out under Vanni Sartini, as they are no doubt the favourites to defend their title.
Last year’s Regular Season CPL Champions will pose a good test, however, as they are coming off the back of four matches unbeaten, three of those against BC opposition, including a win over Vancouver FC in both the cup preliminary round, and one in league play.
In terms of Vancouver’s roster, Damir Kreilach and Sam Adekugbe are out. Keep in mind that in addition to regular squad rotation on such a quick turnaround, Vancouver also needs to start three Canadians. One of those Canadians will be goalkeeper Isaac Boehmer, who Vanni Sartini announced on Saturday night will start this one.
In terms of the predictions contest itself, please let me know if you’d like these scores kept separate from the MLS Regular Season contest, or if we should combine them together. I am happy to go with whatever the consensus is amongst participants, and I’ll have updated brackets for the weekend against LAFC.
Ok, here are the rules as always:
- Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
- You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
- You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
- All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
- At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.
