Guess the Starting XI – Match Ten vs. Austin FC

Welcome back, everyone.

After a short two-game road stint, the Vancouver Whitecaps are back at home this weekend for their 50th anniversary match, as they take on Austin FC.

The team from Texas was off to a very rough start in 2024, but they’ve been one of the hottest teams in MLS recently, as they’ve won 4 of their last 5 matches, most recently disposing of the LA Galaxy at home by a score of 2-0.

Meanwhile for Vancouver, they’ll be looking to improve on a 2-1-2 home record, especially in front of over 30,000 at BC Place Saturday night.

In terms of Vancouver’s roster itself, Andres Cubas is back from suspension, while hopefully Alessandro Schopf has been able to recover from the last-minute illness which kept him out of action on the East Coast. Damir Kreilach is the only player officially out for Vancouver with an ankle issue. Something to keep in mind is that Vancouver will play again on Tuesday night in the Canadian Championship, so there will have to be some rotation between those two fixtures.

Ok, on to rules and standings.

  • Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
  • You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
  • You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
  • All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
  • At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.

  12. I’d think that Sartini would want to have his Canadians: Raposo, Sam, Ali, Priso healthy and rested for Tuesday’s match. We have the depth to handle this really only missing Ali. I’m always concerned about Sartini’s decisions…
