Guess the Starting XI – Match Nine at NYRB

Welcome back, everyone.

The Vancouver Whitecaps are back on the road this week facing the New York Red Bulls.

It’s an enticing match up, not only because these are two teams at the top of their conferences in the standings, but also because Brian White is making his return to his former club, with a chance to set a new goal scoring record for the blue and white.

Vancouver’s perfect road record will be tested, as the Red Bulls have several dangerous attacking threats, including MLS newcomer Emil Forsberg.

In terms of the Whitecaps’ squad, Fafa Picault was back at training this week. Additionally, it will be interesting to see who plays in the back three after Utvik had a strong showing last weekend in Seattle. Andres Cubas, meanwhile, is suspended for YC accumulation.

Ok, on to rules and standings we go.

  • Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
  • You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
  • You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
  • All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
  • At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.
