Guess the Starting XI – Match Seven vs. LA Galaxy

Welcome back, everyone.

After two straight home wins, the Vancouver Whitecaps will welcome the LA Galaxy to town, in a clash of the top two teams in the Western Conference at this early stage of the season.

The Galaxy, as usual, are a dynamic attacking side that often struggles to keep the ball out of their own goal. So, at least on paper, this fixture looks to promise some fireworks, as the Whitecaps will attempt to bring their four-match home stand to a close on a high.

There has not been too much rotation in the Whitecaps squad so far this season, but we were greeted by a couple of surprises this past weekend against TFC, as Bjorn Inge Utvik made his first VWFC start, while Brian White came back from concussion protocol to score an early goal.

This week, Luis Martins was back to full training, while the aforementioned Utvik has been nursing an ankle issue he picked up in the first half against TFC, so he looks to be questionable for this one. Otherwise, Vanni Sartini’s options are open, as it will be interesting to see how the manager lines up against a team that is in some ways the polar opposite of what they faced last weekend.

Ok, on to rules and standings.

  • Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
  • You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
  • You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
  • All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
  • At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.
