Coffee with the Caps, Monday March 30

Good Friday morning Caps fans. Hope you all had a lovely weekend and that your week ahead is a good one. The good news? April and spring are almost upon us.

The international break marches on, with Sebastian Berhalter and Ralph Priso coming off the bench for their respective countries on Saturday. Rayan Elloumi also started for Tunisia in their friendly over the weekend as well.

Aside from that, we are definitely in a dead period in the Caps world.

That obscures the fact, however, that we are about to dive back into an important period for the team. We mentioned the injuries on Friday, which complicate things currently. But April is the last of Vancouver’s cushy start to the season, which has seen them largely playing at home.

This is, of course, to balance out their World Cup-induced exile later in the season. While the schedule sucks, it is a fact of life for the teams playing in stadiums hosting the tournament and a small price to pay at that. But while the Caps managed their long and winding road trip two seasons ago fairly well, this will be a grueling summer. Jesper Sorensen won’t want to make excuses, but you imagine the whole team knows that there is a need to make hay out of this home stand. So if you’re on the fence, this is your sign to get tickets and go support the lads. Because April is your last chance to do so (in the league anyway) for a while.

Shameless Self Promotion

Speaking of Canada, we run down the takeaways from a draw with Iceland that feels a bit disappointing.

Best of the Rest

The new schedule seems likely to bring with it some more imbalanced scheduling for some teams, as MLS looks to dodge the winter weather in northern markets.
