Good Monday morning Caps fans, hope you all are having a lovely start to your week.
It was a hard fought draw for Vancouver on Sunday and while they weren’t able to overcome the longtime nemesis that is LAFC, a point is a pretty good result all things considered.
This was the first time in awhile that the Caps had met their match tactically but Jesper Sorensen responded well and the introduction of Ali Ahmed helped get them over the line to get that second goal and earn a deserved draw. Brian White sits on top of the Golden Boot race and Yohei Takaoka, who recently celebrated his 100th appearance, came up big in stoppage time to deny LAFC a win.
Taka has flown under the radar this season and while he can have uneven moments, he has largely been excellent. And, in possession, his distribution allows the Caps to build up the way they do, bypassing the centerbacks to get the ball to the fullbacks in space quickly. After talk of moving on and favoring Isaac Boehmer, I don’t hear much talk of that anymore.

It’s not looking good for a Ryan Gauld return anytime soon.
A roundup from the week that was in the Canadian Premier League.
David Beckham is facing off against the Minnesota United social media team.

You are clearly not in the stands. It’s not that people are asking to “move on” from Takaoka but there’s definitely calls to actually rotate Boehmer in sometimes. We’re going down the same ridiculous path as last year, needlessly burning out Takaoka (who’s had shaky moments) when a possible option for some games is on the bench (and not developing because of it).
boehmer can play canadian championship, he’s not good enough to play MLS games (just look at the away game versus RSL at the end of last season where he almost singlehandledly lost the game).
i understand where the writer i s coming from re: Takaoka- he does some things really well- as i have said frequently, his distribution game is terrific and its been a sizable upgrade from his previous years; he has quick reflexes and makes some really good saves
BUT- and this still remains my #1 concern- when he does make a mistake, its usually a major one- he almost cost us 2 goals on Sunday- a short side shot where he barely saved the far-out shot with his leg; and the low cross ball that he pushed out and it fell at the feet of a LAG player that somehow missed a tap-in
as far as Boehmer goes, all young players on the Team have gotten game time, yet not Isaac- either use him or loose him
Nope
he made two important saves right at the end of the game and you’re still talking about cinder brick feet boehmer lol get real
