Guess the Starting XI – Match Eight at Seattle

Welcome back, everyone.

It’s a big week for the Vancouver Whitecaps as they head down the I-5 for a clash with the Seattle Sounders at Lumen Field.

The Sounders are not off to a great start, but they showed how dangerous they can be two weeks ago against CF Montreal in a 5-0 win. They followed up that performance with a scoreless draw on the road this past weekend against FC Dallas, so while it has been a mixed bag, at least they are undefeated in their last two matches.

Seattle remains an elite defensive team, but they have once again struggled to convert those chances into goals, excluding that five goal outburst two weeks ago. While the Sounders are third in terms of xG in the West, they have only scored four goals over the course of six matches if you exclude the CF Montreal game – that’s not good, especially given the aging star-power they have in the front four.

Flipping things over to Vancouver, they will be looking to recover after a disappointing home defeat against the Galaxy, where they surrendered two late goals after levelling the scoreline. In terms of injuries, Fafa Picault has not yet returned to training, and he is out this weekend.

Ok, on to rules and standings.

  • Predictions will be ‘valid’ if posted HERE (or more accurately, whichever is the correct match thread) before the lineup is officially announced, usually about an hour before kickoff.
  • You receive 1 point for every player you correctly guess to be in the Starting XI. You receive 4 bonus points for correctly predicting all 11 starters.
  • You get 5 points for correctly guessing Win/Lose/Draw, this doubles to 10 if you also predict the right score-line along with the result.
  • All this means, if you correctly predict the Starting XI, Final Score, and Winner, you can earn 25 points!
  • At the end of each half of the season, the contestant’s lowest two scores (or missed predictions) of that period will be deducted from the cumulative standings.

You know I’m at a loss when I can’t choose a loser! Can’t wait for Utvik to be back (is he back?) and Fafa, of course. Considered Kreilach but I like seeing Ahmed start. Also, Vite could be still out of favour. Will Brown ever start again? Gah!

    1. I think we’ve got Brown as backup depth now and hes going to end up being sold. Hes going to get a lot of minutes once CC’s start though, but I feel he deserves better than how we are treating him

      1. Every time I watch Brown play, I am always trying to figure out if he is smart or lazy. He’s definitely improved since last season and gotten more trim. It is nice that the Caps have depth but I always feel bad for the players that aren’t getting the minutes

  7. Gauld White Ahmed
    Adekugbe Cubas Vite Schöpf

2-1 Seattle – this is the lineup I’d like to see not the lineup I necessarily think we will see – wouldn’t surprise me to see Kreilach in the 11.

I have no idea how they’ll line up without Fafa, but clogging up the middle with a 3-5-2 sounds like as good of a plan as any to get points in Seattle. I imagined a scenario where they overload the left side with Adekugbe at LWB, Ahmed at LCM and Gauld up top as SS. That would be fun to watch.
